This 660,000 square foot multi-use facility is the home of North Carolina's National Hockey League team, the Carolina Hurricanes, as well as the famed North Carolina State Wolfpack college basketball team.
The 20,300-seat arena features 58 private suites, with expansion possibilities for 10 additional suites. In addition to sporting events, the arena is venue for concerts, circuses and other entertainment. A full range of public amenities serves visitors, including a hospitality area with restaurant, concessions, and retail facilities. The structure also houses administrative offices and locker room facilities for the NCAA basketball and NHL hockey teams.
Mechanical construction on the arena included the installation of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems. More than 3,200 tons of cooling equipment, including three chillers, 22 air handlers, and nine chilled water pumps were installed within the structure. The facility is served by more than 1,150 plumbing fixtures and 315 drains. The HVAC package of the arena also included twelve 10,000-CFM desiccant wheel dehumidifiers.
