UNC Science Complex – Phase Two – Sitterson Addition, Kenan Lab Building Uplift and Phillips Addition Fluids Lab

Sitterson Addition – Added a new five story addition to the existing Sitterson Building. The addition included the installation of new mechanical systems, new plumbing systems, new plumbing fixtures, and upgrades to some of the existing mechanical and plumbing systems.
The project included a new air handling unit to serve just the new addition. New hydronics package with heat exchanger to place the existing system and now serves both the existing and new addition. Also included were new plumbing fixtures, new plumbing, piping and duct systems to serve the demand of the new addition.
Kenan Lab – Renovation of four floors in the existing Kenan Science Building. This included demolition and upgrades to the existing mechanical, plumbing, and control systems. Also, as a change order, support piping for the Morehead Lab was installed. Morehead Lab will also interconnect with the new Physical Science Building. This building required many coordinated shutdowns of existing systems for tie-ins of new systems.
The lab renovation included a new liquid nitrogen tank and nitrogen system, new exhaust fans, a new sewage ejector pump, new plumbing fixtures, plumbing piping, new duct systems and replacement controls for the existing VAV boxes. Relocation and modification to existing systems and equipment was also a part of this project.
Fluids Lab – Up-fit for a new lab in the Phillips Building that was part of the Phase One Package. The up-fit included new mechanical systems, new plumbing systems, and lab systems. Kirlin received change orders to do up-fits for the Level Two Office, Albritton Lab, and the Lopez Lab. This building required many shutdowns of existing systems for tie-ins of new systems.
The lab fit up included the installation of a new air handling unit with a fabric duct system, new lab systems, plumbing piping, a fume hood, and lab equipment.
