UNC Genetic Medicine Building Phase Two
UNC Genetic Medicine is a 330,000 square foot genetic research laboratory which consists of 80,000 square feet of vivarium area and houses 40,000 animals. The balance of the building is general laboratories, biological safety laboratories and administration and support staff.
The mechanical system distributes over 380,000 CFM of supply air and general exhaust, via twelve stacked AHUs, six HRUs and forty-one computer room units, supported by 3,200 tons of chilled water and 30,000 MBH of heating. The fume hood exhaust system is rater for 78,000 CFM. There is over 1.1 million pounds of sheet metal duct distributing the air throughout the building.
The building is the second largest on the UNC campus, and the largest laboratory at UNC Chapel Hill.
