J. W. Marriott Hotel
Washington, D.C.

One of the newer additions to Washington, D.C.'s historic Pennsylvania Avenue corridor, the J.W. Marriott Hotel is one of the city's most frequented hotel properties. The project included construction of a 15-story hotel and office building complex along with five levels of below-grade meeting and parking facilities.
The 1.75 million-square-foot property adds 772 sleeping rooms to accommodate visitors to the nation's capital. The complex also provides office space to prestigious clients.
The mechanical package included plumbing, HVAC, sprinkler systems and elaborate environmental controls. Large vertical storage tanks at the penthouse level service the building.
Chillers and cooling towers were raised to the roof level using a 160-ton crane set on adjacent roofs, and were then rolled into position. The penthouse structure was set back from the building's facade to comply with the redevelopment authority's detailed visual plan for "the nation's Main Street."
