Kirlin played a large hand is constructing this new "prototype hospital for the future" in Homestead Florida. The new $100-plus million project is to become a complete replacement for the existing Homestead Hospital located a few miles away. The new hospital is three times larger than the old facility, which is over fifty years old.
The new hospital allows for the incorporation of new services and cutting edge medical technology to greatly enhance the quality of care provided to the community. The new hospital will feature 120 private patient rooms, an Emergency Center triple the size of the old one, additional operating rooms boosting the total to eight and much more clinical space for outpatient diagnostic services and minimally invasive surgery.
Mechanical equipment installed includes three 1,200 ton chillers in the ground floor central energy plant; three ground-floor 1,200 ton cooling towers to the immediate exterior of the plant; air handling units throughout the facility; 14 pumps; three underground fuel tanks; one water softener; almost 1,400 fixtures; a specialized medical-gas system which itself includes almost 2,000 fixtures; multiple two-stage pressure reducing steam stations; and two 300 hp boilers.
