East Carolina Cardiovascular Institute – Greenville, NC

The East Carolina Cardiovascular Institute at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC is a seven story, 375,000 square foot heart center. The Institute houses six operating rooms, thirteen interventional labs, and one-hundred seventy patient beds. The Institute is a world-class cardiovascular center offering state-of-the-art medical technology, education and research. The Institute will be the first facility in North Carolina devoted specifically and exclusively to the research, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
The HVAC scope includes eight custom air-handling units with a total of 400,000 CFM, a 17,000 CFM Desiccant Air Handling Unit, twelve computer room air handlers, twenty-three condensate pumps, and over seven-hundred fifty-five variable and constant volume boxes. The 2,200 gpm heating hot water system is generated via steam-to-water heat exchangers located in the 28,200 square foot third floor mechanical room. Steamed and chilled water services are provided from a remote Central Utility Plant.
The project also included dedicated Heat Recovery piping and heat exchangers for domestic and heating hot water systems. The system recovers heat generated during the operation of emergency electrical generators, and temporarily replaces steam as the heat-generating medium.
