The Central Regional Psychiatric Hospital is situated on a 50 acre site in Butner, NC. As a replacement for Dorthea Dix and the Umstead Psychiatric Facilities, this state of the art $120 million dollar facility supports the treatment of patients to the highest level of psychiatric care for the central region of North Carolina. This complex consists of a 460,000 square foot psychiatric facility, a 10,000 square foot central energy plant and a 16,000 square foot landscape building. The facility features over 400+ patient rooms, as well as, administrative areas. Featuring indoor and outdoor basketball courts, group meeting rooms and interior courtyards that allow the patients to enjoy the outdoors, the facility represents the leading edge of design in psychiatric care.
Kirlin performed the mechanical and plumbing contracts for this large and complex project. The HVAC scope included 1800 tons of cooling distributed by 27 air handlers with a combined capacity of 570,000 CFM serving 1000+ variable air volume terminal units. The plumbing scope included medical and dental gases for patient rooms, as well as, the usual domestic water and waste systems which supported over 2000 plumbing fixtures.
