The Sam M. Gibbons Federal Courthouse - FL

The Sam M. Gibbons Federal Courthouse covers an entire two city blocks, with a 17-story, 417,000 square foot structure. The courthouse earned an award from the National Department of Energy Award in 1998. The project was a sustainable design project which focused on: the ability to optimize site potential; minimized use of non-renewable energy consumption; the use of environmentally preferable products; the protection and conservation of water; enhanced indoor environmental quality; and optimized operational and maintenance practices.
Kirlin's work consisted of 2 chillers totaling 1,300 tons; chilled water and condenser water distributed to 65 AHUs and 17 ACS units via 10 pumps; and approximately 625 VAV and FPVAV boxes and 110 supply/exhaust fans. The plumbing systems included conventional cast iron waste and vent and copper domestic water serving approximately 675 fixtures. Energy efficient fixtures were utilized throughout.
