WorldCom Northern Virginia Center Operations Center

A new campus with the purpose of consolidating several WorldCom and UUNET offices was developed at this major exchange point for communications. The location is vital for connecting between local and international Internet backbone peering points.
The project was developed utilizing a design-build approach on fast-track 15-month construction schedule. The campus environment included:
- Three- 3 story office buildings at 124,000 square feet each
- Three- 4 story office buildings at 164,000 square feet each
- A Central plant - 44,000 square feet
- Three - 3 level parking garages
- Lakes, fountains, 1 ½ mile 6 - lane parking.
A 100,000 square foot data center for monitoring and maintaining telecommunications activity was built with N+2 utilities. The central plant serving this computer room environment includes six 1,000 ton centrifugal chillers, seven 1,200 ton cooling towers and two 375 BHp boilers. Overall the central plant supports 166 computer room air handlers.
