Equinix Building Exchange Center
Ashburn, Virginia

This facility was designed to enable scaleable, reliable interconnection between companies with strategic internet operations. The operation was developed to be one of the first turnkey service to fundamentally improve the peering architecture of the Internet. This service enables a centralized and neutral environment, direct interconnection for peering between major backbone networks for the first time.
This project was constructed in an existing 147,000 square foot building. We were responsible for shoring and reinforcing of the existing structural steel to accommodate equipment installation. The HVAC and environmental controls provide optimum conditions for equipment operation and minimize downtime due to equipment failure. The mechanical system consists of 5 cooling towers, 5 chillers, and 26-computer room air handling units with a fuel oil system serving 6,000 kW auxiliary electrical generation plant.
Kirlin completed the project early to allow N + 1 data center to meet an accelerated operating schedule.
