United States Institute of Peace

The United States Institute of Peace's Headquarters and Public Education Center is located at the northwest corner of the National Mall. It was built through a public-private partnership with support from Congress. This building is notable for its eye-catching design and high-quality craftsmanship.
Designed by Moshe Safdie and Associates, USIP is intended to be testament to this country's enduring goal of peace and security. The building is five stories with 3 distinct wings flanking 2 atriums. The top three stories contain office space for the organization's staff. Every office has a window, either exterior or overlooking the atrium below. The building also houses a 230 seat theater, a conference center, an outdoor terrace and a parking garage.
One of the most notable aspects is its roof. The building's two curved roofs are designed to evoke at the image of the wings of a dove.
Kirlin's plumbing and mechanical work received the Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award for Piping and Ductwork.
