The Millennium Building
Washington DC

Formerly the World Bank Headquarters building located at 1909 K Street, N.W. The project consisted of interior and exterior renovations to accommodate the 21st century tenant and energy standards. The 12-story building is located on a premier corner, in the business district of the Nations Capitol.
The building was renovated to meet "Green Building" and "EPA Energy Star" standards. Environmentally sensitive materials were installed throughout the 235,000 square feet of class "A" office space. Energy efficiency was a primary focus during this project and features include: high efficiency HVAC equipment; separate electric meters on each floor, low-E insulated glass, interior noise controls and high ratio of window offices for natural light.
The demolition of the existing building interior salvaged much of the material for reuse ("Green Building Standard") either in new building construction or elsewhere. New building construction included adding three floors to the building. The mechanical system was completely replaced.
A new central plant consisting of two 350-ton chillers, a 700-toncooling tower, a 250-ton commercial tower with new piping and pumps was installed. The existing plumbing, storm, waste and vent as well as domestic waste systems and toilet fixtures were replaced.
