The complete operations of the federal government's Health Care Financing Administration are housed in this four-building 920,000 square foot office complex. The buildings provide space for the agency's administrative and data processing services.
The highly efficient mechanical system features a state-ofthe-art ice storage and thermal recovery system which employs five low-temperature rotary screw chillers totaling 2,200 tons of air conditioning capacity.
The 235,000 gallon thermal storage system supplies low temperature chilled water to low temperature supply air fans which can be accommodated by smaller ductwork and piping systems.
By implementing this unique mechanical system, the owner was rewarded with lower energy operating costs than would be available from a conventional large-scale chilled water system.
