This 340,000 square foot commercial office building, situated in the central business district of Washington, D.C., is a LEED Platinum certified project. The project involved the demolition and renovation of an existing 210,000 square foot building and the construction of three new floors.
Kirlin's scope of work included the installation of many of the energy efficient features that resulted in the LEED Platinum certification, including low temperature VAV air-handling units and a high-efficiency variable primary and variable condenser water chilled water system that uses only 30% of the fan and pumping power used by a typical system. Kirlin also installed high-efficiency plumbing fixture that save approximately 94,000 gallons of potable water each year.
In addition to LEED Platinum certification, the project has been recognized as "Designed to Earn ENERGY STAR®" with a design rating of 99 out 100 points, earning it a spot among the top two percent of buildings nationwide for energy efficiency.
