Careful coordination and detailed planning were a central focus of this 800,000 square-foot research facility. A phased approach to construction allowed early occupancy in parts of the building while construction continued in other areas.
The laboratory facility features copper piping joined with silver solder and purged with nitrogen for the delivery of six different gases. The gas, hot and cold water, steam condensate, waste, vent and chilled water lines were installed according to exacting tolerances in a narrow chase behind the laboratory tables. Installation of the building's control system was interlocked with a state-of-the-art air monitoring system, requiring exceptional coordination of work with the sheet metal, balancing and control contractors.
Other components of the project included construction of heating and chilling plants, as well as fueling facilities.
