Miami International Airport
United States

Miami International Airport (MIA) is the third busiest airport in the United States, carrying over 20 million passengers to and from 160 cities worldwide. It is the USA’s biggest international freight airport. Over 90 airlines serve 500,000 domestic and international passengers per week from 147 gates in concourses A through H. In order to improve its amenities and capacity, MIA is currently undergoing one of the most ambitious development programs of any US airport, including a major expansion of the terminal area.
The 3.5-million-square-foot North Terminal is a mix of new construction and renovations and runs a full mile long. Inside it contains an automated people mover, a complex new baggage system, 242 ticket and self-service counters and 50 gates. The North Terminal rises to five floors and its construction schedule is currently set for June 2010 with multiple interim milestone completion dates along the way.
The North Terminal Development Project serves primary tenant American Airlines who will utilize 42 of its 50 new gates. Kirlin is responsible for all aspects of this enormous project’s HVAC, plumbing, pre-conditioned air, sheet metal, insulation and fire protection scope of work. Nothing less than a top-notch team could make this project’s success possible for Miami-Dade Aviation and American Airlines.
